Best Countries in Europe (After Visiting All 50) + How to Choose

Iโve been on five continents, but the one continent I have visited the most is my beloved Europe.
This is where I call home and where I find the most joy that ignites my soul.
Europe is not a dream destination for everyone, but it sure is the ultimate destination for some.
Iโve always preached that travel destinations are all the same, and we, the travellers, arenโt all the same either. Thatโs why not all destinations suit any kind of traveller.
And to demonstrate that, I have visited all countries in Europe, not just the European Union, and I am so glad I did.
I want to share with you my personal insights after visiting all these countries in Europe, and try to suggest what kind of travel experience each of these places in Europe offers.
One of the best ways to visit multiple countries from this list is by planning a Europe road trip across the continent.
Because Europe is a big continent and has 50 countries, I will share some of the most popular categories that people from all over the world use to categorise travel destinations, and for each one, I will include my top picks and provide explanations. For many of these destinations, I have specific in-depth guides that will help you start planning the perfect trip in Europe.
Itโs going to be a long list because the list of all the countries in Europe goes up to 50, so letโs begin.

Adventure Travel in Europe
I am always up for spending time in nature and unforgettable outdoor experiences. If you don’t know where to start, I’d start with these countries.
These are the best countries in Europe for adventure travel.
Iceland
Iceland, conveniently located between Europe and North America, makes it the closest destination if you’re visiting from North America. But don’t expect Iceland to be a land covered in ice, because you’ll be disappointed. What you will find in Iceland is glacier hiking, active volcanoes, and lots of hot springs.

Norway
I’ve said it a lot of times before, and I will say it again. Norway is my favourite country in Europe, and I think you will put it on your list too if nature activities are your thing. Norway is all about hiking, boat and ferry trips, and gorgeous fjords all the time.
I’ve visited Norway more than a few times and did road trips around all the best attractions and hiking trails. So yes, nature is a religion in Norway and you will love it there.

Romania
Romania is my home country, and of course, I know how underrated and gorgeous this country in Europe really is. I feel like the more people come to nature in Romania, the more the word spreads about how awesome hiking in the Carpathians really is. Romania isn’t a small country, and different regions offer different experiences, and the best ones are in nature. Transylvania and the Black Sea Coastline are great spots for extreme sports but also a breathtaking setting for a relaxed trip.

Nature and mountain views
I bet you don’t know that you can find some of the most dramatic landscapes, peaceful nature, and mountain views in Europe.
These are the countries Iโd personally recommend if nature is your priority.
๐จ๐ญ Switzerland
Switzerland is probably the most iconic destination in Europe when it comes to mountains. Here you have the Alps, crystal-clear lakes, and perfectly maintained hiking trails. Sure, it gets crowded in the summer, but I’m sure you know that the shoulder season is the best time to visit Switzerland.
Itโs not the cheapest destination, but if you want that โpostcard-perfectโ mountain scenery, Switzerland delivers every single time.
๐ณ๐ด Norway
Norway deserves to be mentioned again here because itโs not just about adventure, itโs about pure natural beauty.
The fjords, the mountains, the endless viewpointsโฆ Itโs one of the few places in Europe where you can drive for hours and constantly feel like youโre in a movie.

๐ฎ๐น Italy
Italy is, without a doubt, one of the richest countries in the world when it comes to history and culture. It’s part of the reason it’s so crowded during summer (please don’t go during summer).
From Roman ruins to Renaissance art and medieval towns, every region feels like an open-air museum. Cities like Rome, Florence, and Venice are packed with landmarks, but even smaller places offer incredible historical depth.

๐ณ๐ด Norway
Norway is, in my opinion, the best road trip destination in Europe. I know I am repeating myself, but Norway is, as I said, one of the best overall destinations if you’re into nature and road trips.
The combination of fjords, mountains, ferries, and endless viewpoints makes every drive feel like part of the experience. Itโs not just about getting from A to B, but the journey itself is the highlight. Even if you don’t or can’t hike, seeing Norway’s nature from the car is a dream come true.
